Commissioning was performed during the Christmas 2021 halt, in order to upgrade and align the performance of rolling mill #2 in Feralpi Siderurgica's plant, Lonato (BS, Italy), demonstrating the long-standing collaboration between Automazioni Industriali Capitanio (AIC) and one of the European leaders of rebar production.
The project primarily involved the installation of a new control panel for two roughing area stands (G2 & G5) and an intermediate shear (S6), both of which are powered by ABB ACS880 drives. Components for safety have also been included.
The goal is to optimize and expand the client's production flexibility, thanks to improved motors control, both for shear and stands. This will enable a more linear production process with fewer interruptions throughout time as well as optimal management of all phases.
The communication networks were also adapted, with the modification of the drive interface and the PLC Master for interblocks management, as well as the migration from Profibus to Ethernet communication.
As proof of our commitment to meeting our customers’ requirements, tasks were completed on schedule, despite the restricted time available, managing to cope with the criticalities of the supply.
