In the weeks 46-47 of 2022, the AIC North America team successfully granted Factory-Acceptance Tests for two strategic projects that will be completed in the early part of 2023. The projects involve North American sites.
The projects involve North American sites, specifically rolling mills in Columbia City (Indiana) and in Jacksonville (Florida).
Indiana's project will maximize the yield and product tracking through a brand-new robotic island for bundles tagging installed at the rolling mill finishing end.
The speciality of this new application, which mounts an ABB floor-mounted robot with Siemens PLC, is the provision of a 6-coloured tags dispenser inside the robotic cell to visually detect special billets like EOH billets, DEFECTED billets, NEW HEAT billets etc. Coloured adhesive labels (for quality) will be applied together with the printed tags (for tracking) on the head of the bundle.
Commissioning is expected in mid-February.
Jacksonville’s project will be facing Wire Rod line integrations, adding:
- Software engineering (logic modification and reallocation of all safety logic)
- All Wire Rod CPUs QMOS Interfaces
- New line machines on FactoryTalk HMI project and in QMOS interfacing recipes
- HMI modifications to delete dismantled machines and to include new machines on screens, recipes and QMOS.
