We exhibited at AISTech tradeshow - Steel's Premier Technology Event, one of the world's largest iron & steel conferences, which was held in Pittsburgh (Pa, USA) from the 16th to the 18th of May.
At Booth #1841 we showed the range of competencies and services we provide as Group, our most technologically leading-edge applications, such as - as a world premiere - a brand-new mechatronics machine able to perform automatically both trimming and sampling operations and remove pieces from wire rod coils.

Autonomous Trimming and Sampling of Wire Rod Coil Head and Tail

The rolling process has been refined and improved over the past several decades and today there are technological marvels worldwide. However, regardless of all the wonderous technologies such as high-speed rolling equipment, artificial technology and digital twins, rolling mills must regularly trim and sample the finished coiled products, and in almost all cases, this is a 100% manual operation. To address this, AIC has developed a fully autonomous trimming and sampling robot, the TrimBot. TrimBot is a trimming and sampling system that can operate within any existing vertical or horizontal coil handling system while offering perfect results and accuracy on every coil.

Successful Story of a Rolling Mill Full Upgrade, Challenges and Results

This paper presents a description of the challenges an obsolete rolling mill faces with automation and with controlling the key performance indicators, steps made to fully upgrade it in minimal stopping time, and a description of the obtained results.
