AIC to upgrade Cascade Steel Bar & Wire rod mill

AIC has been awarded by Cascade Steel for the mill drives revamping of the Bar & Wire rodmill located in McMinnville, Oregon USA

This project is finalized to a deep modernization of the old ABB drives with a state of the art solution. The scope of supply includes, LV distribution panels AC & DC drives and a new safety system for a more efficient lock-out procedure, commissioning and production assistance are also part of the scope.
The main equipment to be supplied are as follow:
- #7 transformer protection circuit breakers panels
- #18 stands DC drives based on ABB DCS800 technology with SIL3 configuration
- #3 startstop shears DC drives based on ABB DCS800 technology  with SIL3 configuration
- 10# auxiliary AC drives based on ABB ACS880 technology with SIL3 configuration
- Arc flash protection devices for all panels according to new United States of America NFP rules
- Ethernet network between drives, automation and HMI
- All drives are still AF100 bus
- ABB RMC automation system and iba  integration with new drives
- Safety system composed by Allen Bradley GuardLogix PLC, released coded keys, control desk and HMI
- Detail engineering and technical documentation
- Equipment tests, FAT, commissioning and production assistance
